Boxed.com Founder Chieh Huang on Scaling at 12th Annual Smart Hustle Small Business Conference
Chieh Huang, founder of Boxed.com shares his personal experiences in scaling and growing a business at the 12th Annual Smart Hustle Small Business Conference. https://smarthustle.com/conference
Chieh will talk about the importance of employee care and hard work while scaling. He launched Boxed.com out of his garage in 2013 and quickly scaled to a much larger business, competing against significantly bigger and more established brands. Think virtual Costco, and you get an idea of his business model. The company offers bulk items at wholesale club prices, without charging a yearly membership fee. As a result, he’s been able to greatly expand the market for these kinds of purchases to younger people without cars and those living in more rural areas, outside the range of similar brick and mortar outlets. The company’s 2016 sales doubled over the previous year.
Chieh has also received much attention for his generous employee benefits programs, including college tuition and wedding expenses. Chieh is leading the pack in family leave policy, offering an unprecedented full, unlimited, 100% paid time off to both mothers and fathers. This kind of focus on family, (no doubt inspired by the birth of his own two kids), raises the bar on employee retention tactics to a whole new level.
“Cheih is a CEO who exudes those rare, but much needed qualities of both humility and competitiveness,” says Ramon Ray, founder of Smart Hustle Magazine.
