Small Business Trends CEO Talks Productivity During COVID-19
Anita Campbell of Small Business Trends was the keynote speaker at the Survive and Thrive Summit about productivity related to COVID-19. Hosted and produced by Ramon Ray of Smart Hustle Media, the first two Summits were held in April and August of 2020 with the next one coming in Spring 2021. It’s free, so subscribe to the newsletter to not miss registration.
Are you feeling a bit “blah” over the last few months? Having a hard time finding motivation? You’re far from alone. The COVID-19 pandemic turned our worlds upside down. It’s hard to focus on tasks at hand and be productive when we feel unsure of the world around us. What’s worse, things are changing quickly and it’s hard to keep up. Check out this interview and hopefully breathe a little easier after.
Productivity the New Way
Anita shares her thoughts on how this is a great opportunity to get work on things you don’t otherwise have time to do, both personally and in your business. It’s common to have the mental outlook of ‘go go go’, but that tends to lead to us not having time to do some important work within our business.
Anita told us how she and her team use the end of the year during the holidays to accomplish things that they normally don’t have time to do. This is a similar time — it wasn’t a planned time out or downtime, but if your business is facing a slower time, there are still really important tasks you can complete. This also puts you ahead for when things do pick up, and you can hit the ground running.
“Keep your head down and do whatever work you can do right now.” – Anita Campbell
For example, Anita’s team has been looking into some tools to help with SEO and keyword rankings. They were able to use this time to invest in a tool that they needed, set it up, and also learn the in’s and out’s of it. During normal times, they would have been too busy and had actually been putting this off for a while.
A study from Florida State University found that productivity and performance are at their peak during uninterrupted 90-minute intervals.
Anita has hope that things will get back to feeling like normal. Her team was already working from home so their daily setup hasn’t changed much. But she suggests looking for the good in each day, finding the small things that are still “normal” and feels that there is plenty out there to make us happy if we just take a moment to see them.
