7 Strategies for Creating Effective Online Ads that Get Results
Online ads are a great way to increase a business’s online presence and get more traffic to your website, but how much traffic you generate is directly tied to how effective your online ads are. Here are some tips to help you create more effective online ads – and start getting results.
7 Tips for Creating Effective Online Ads
Know the Goal of Your Ad
Before you can start building a good ad, you have to know WHY you are building it. Who are you targeting, what do you want them to do after seeing it, what is the end goal you seek? These are all questions you need to know the answers to before starting the design of your ad.
Utilize Your Limited Space
Most online ads are small, so you really have to focus on effectively using what very little space you have. A relevant and compelling image can help you effectively use the limited space and grab the user’s attention.
Focus on a Good Headline
The vast majority of success from an online ad comes down to the headline. If you are unable to grab someone’s attention with the headline, you’re very unlikely to get the outcome you want from them when they see your ad.
Be Up Front and to the Point
Tell people about your products and services and how you can solve their problems; if you don’t, they’ll keep searching for someone who does. If your message isn’t clear, you won’t get the results you are looking for.

Consumers like to be told what to do, so tell your audience what you want them to do. Some commonly used calls to action are “Click here,” “Learn more,” “Contact us,” “Sign up,” and “Enter here.”
Make Your Ads Click
The goal of every online ad should be to capture as much attention as possible. No problem, right? There are several things you can do to make your ad more interesting to potential consumers, including showing how your product or service would benefit them. You can also write copy that plays on emotions or intrigues them—curiosity doesn’t kill the cat, it gets people to pay attention!
Have a Compelling Landing Page
Half of the job is to get them to click on the ad; the other half is making sure they stay on the landing page and take action. You’ll have a better chance of that if the landing page has an engaging copy that maintains the user’s interest.
Remember, there’s no one set of golden rules that will get people to click on your online ads and purchase your products and services because not all people are alike. What works for one consumer might not work for another. That’s why it’s important to follow as many of these rules as possible, in order to have a more effective online marketing program and increase the likelihood that searchers will take action when they see it.
